Been doing a particular job for 7 years, and do not have a formal qualification.. how do I get one?
I have worked my way up in a printing company to a graphic designer, I have had no formal qualifiactions for this job and only did a very short course in the basics 8 years ago, I have now worked as a graphic designer for two companies over the past 7 years and was wondering if there is any way to get recognition for a qualification in the industry, I have the same knowledge of a someone who has a diploma in graphic design if not more and alot more hands on experience, is there anywhere you can apply to get a degree or certificate based on recognised prior learning, and written details on your competancies from your employer without having to go back to school or university? I live in australia too by the way, incase there is different guidlines?

- "is there anywhere you can apply to get a degree or certificate based on recognised prior learning, and written details on your competancies from your employer without having to go back to school or university?" Not that I know of...I'm self taught....if they don't pay you the same as everyone else with the same skills you should leave or go solo.
- No. But school should be a breeze now. Take it at night.
- You may want to consult the universities or colleges nearby. In some cases, you can take a test (which you would have to pay) and if you pass, you don't have to take that class. Beware, to get a degree you may need to fulfill other requirements, such as the basic courses that include english, history, science, etc..... It would be better if you call directly, this way you are well informed. It seems that for now, your only ticket is your experience.
- I suggest you sign up for a formal diploma course in graphic designing. What is important is that piece of certificate.
