How do I ask local politicians to send a letter or certificate of recognition?

I need to send a letter to local politicians as well as the governor and the president asking them to consider sending letters or certificates of recognition for girls who have earned a very high award. I am very good at writing letters but this time I am stumped. I am not sure how to word it. Any help or links would be great.

1. A letter might contain these elements: Who you are What the girls did What you would like to receive Your contact info Being brief is fine, especially if you include some contact information. If you find you still have trouble wording it, a phone call to a public officials office is fine. It could be a nice change of pace for the receptionist who often has to deal with complaining voters. Plus, if you can win over someone on the phone, your chances of getting what you need may improve. -BD
