Recognition Certificates

Are award ceremonies in colleges and adult education really about the students?

I'm asking this because the last two i've been to have been clearly about the college themselves. The local paper was there, teachers were praised for students getting marks and the actually handing out of certificates lasted about 15 minutes out of a 2 hour presentation period! I've no problem with teachers getting recognition but I was always led to believe that award ceremonies were for the students?

1. Lets recognize that many students would not graduate or obtain a degree if it was not for their teachers. I agree with you though that there should be more student involvement. Very often you have a student speaker and awards given In fact at some commencements that I have been at the awards are so numerous that they begin to get boring./
