Why do people get Certificates Of Achievement over Degrees? I want to attend college in Spring of 2009. I live in San Jose, CA and we have many community colleges out here. I want to attend online classes with West Valley College and I notice that they offer both Certificates of Achievement as well as Degrees. My question is why would someone go out for a certificate and not a degree? Also, do they only offer job placement for individuals with degrees of education or do they offer placement help for students with Certificates in chosen fields? Please help, I'm having such a hard time deciding on what I want to go out for. I really don't want to spend more than 2 years getting educated and I can only do online classes and I'd much rather go for a vocational certification or degree, whichever is possible.

Is it appropriate to write certificate of achievement on a plaque? Any suggestions on a word to replace certificate? We will be giving plaques to employees who have completed a curriculum of classes. I can't think of any other verbiage than "Certificate of Achievement" to engrave on the plaques. Only problem is we're giving plaques, not certificates. HELP!!!

What is your best achievement in life? Basically, it is the question above, I can't really put it in more detail: what is your best achievement in life? Think about these things that MIGHT have happened in your life... *Children *Education *Trophies *Certificates *Childhood *Adulthood
Transfer to CSU w/Certificate of Achievement? I want to transfer to CSULB with a Certificate of Achievement from a community college. But what are the circumstances for that as opposed to declaring yourself as simply a transfer student? All I know is that in order to transfer, you need 60 units. And for the Certificate of Achievement, you need 18. Is that all there is to it? If you complete any courses that add up to 18 units, you automatically receive the Certificate of Achievement? Any information about transferring and the certificate can be helpful. Thanks. I'm aware there are specific courses and such that need to be completed in order to transfer. I have the information for what needs to be taken and such. I should have made my question more clear: What is the difference in just transfering as opposed to transferring with a Certificate of Achievement? If I take more than 18 transferrable units (from the CSU GE requirements), does that automatically give me the Certificate of Achievement? Or does the Certificate of Achievement have their own list of speicific courses to take?
Where can I buy a record of achievement? The ones where you put your certificates in, your supposed to get one at the end of high school but seeing as mine was practically a slum I didn't. Any websites/shops where I can get one? cheers

Should Y!A award printable certificates for achievements? I'm sitting here with my 18 years old daughter trying to explain to her the joys of Y!A. She is just not getting it. She asked if there were printable certificates for achievements, like moving up a level, best answers etc, and if not what was the point of joining and participating. When I answered no, she looked bemused. We (daughter and me ... maybe I am getting her interested!) would be interested in the the opinions of other Y!A devotees. Many thanks for your thoughts.
Community college certificates? Do you earn a Certificate of Achievement by just taking all of the courses required for a specific major? (Example: to be a Chasis and Drive-train Specialist would I just take the courses for that part of the major and not take all of the general education required for the AA degree?)
Would you put this in your record of achievement? A certificate to show you have reached a dan grade (black belt) in a martial art. It would show you have determination skills to reach high levels but wouldn't some employers think you were trying to "act hard"? Which sadly a lot of people think.
How useful is an undergrad certificate? Hi, I am currently on active duty about to go overseas in about a week and I would like to take full advantage of the Army's tuition assistance program and get a degree in forensics but there are only two options available: a certificate of achievement or a 4 year degree. I am worried that I may not be able to complete a 4 year degree going overseas and then who knows where... So, my question really is would any federal, state or municipal government employers take a certificate along with military experience seriously? Thanks a lot for your time!
What universities have a great film program? Right now I am a student at Los Medanos Community College and will probably get an associate degree or certificate of achievement. How far can you get with a Certificate of Achievement in Design/Product design? Is the vocational certificate from a community college really limited? Or will it teach me everything i need to know, so that its just up to my creative and artistic abilities to get me where i want to be? Im asking because i dont want to be stuck with a certificate that will get me nowhere, and im pretty clueless when it comes to art careers. I just know i like to draw and design. So would just a certificate in art/design actually get me anywhere? Personal experiences anyone? help me out here.

Does anyone see a problem with a principal giving cash incentives to students for doing well in school? I am a teacher in an urban school in SC. My principal gives out $10 cash incentives for students who make the honor roll, do well on tests, etc. The problem that it has caused, which he does not see, is that the other awards given to students for achievement (like certificates and ribbons, like we had in school) hold no weight anymore. Students just complain that they didn't get any cash and they don't want a "stupid certificate". I am on track to becoming an administrator myself and was wondering from any experts, or non-experts out there what they thought of this. I'm interested to hear your responses. The thing that the kids hate the most, is when there are more than a handful of students tied to get the cash incentive. In that case, he divides on persons prize money up among all the winning students, and sometimes they end up only getting 1 dollar or less, which pisses them off. Should I say something to this guy? I need some feedback on this. My principal is the type of guy, well, he's a narcissist. thinks everyone is out to get him and thinks what he does is the best. He has a rep of being not well liked in the district but he sees it the other way. He thinks people love him but are out to get him because he thinks hes so successful. so, I really can't talk to him. Just want peoples opinions.
